First, I have to say that I absolutely love my Mantra. I got it for a smoking good deal. In my opinion, it's worth every single penny. That's not to say that this is a top-of-the-line bicycle by any means. There are obvious areas in which costs were cut, like the brake levers, which have way too much play and feel like they're made of brittle metal. The seat post and pedals are generic as generic comes. But other areas where a few splurges helped raise the level of the machine. I appreciate the forged crankset. I appreciate the sealed hubs. I appreciate the durable and rideable Kenda tires, which have taken a lot of miles with good feel and wear. Could it use a chromoly frame instead of a hi-ten steel one? Can't replace the "feel of steel," right? Well, to get that 6160 goodness, carbon forks, nice brake set? You have to step up to the Drome for that. But, who needs brakes on a fixie anyways? Am I right? It's a super fun bike, as a commuter and city ride. It could probably be used for some light training, but I wouldn't consider it a proper road bike or of that sort. I would definitely recommend this as a great starter fixie, of the same ilk as others in this price range and construction. It's a reasonable first step before you consider stepping up to some a bit costlier.
This is the first product I have purchased from Retrospec, and I love it! I live in a suburban area and have no issues with taking it on the roads, climbing hills, and even going over some light gravel paths. I have managed to get it up to some really quick speeds on flat portions as well, which is always a great time. All in all, a very solid bike that I would recommend to anyone.
This was my first purchase from Retrospec and I am beyond pleased. The bike arrived in great condition and was fairly easy to assemble. A video of assembly would work better than the instructions.
This is the first bike I have bought in my adulthood. I was nervous because I didn't know if it was going to be the right size but I am 5'7 and the medium was perfect, just had to lower the seat down. I built it on my own but the front brakes were a little janky. After taking it into a shop to get tuned up I could not stop riding this bike! I love it!! Such a smooth ride that helps me get in and out of the city. I take it to work and school almost everyday.
So far, so good with the Mantra. Bike came packaged very well and putting it together was pretty straight forward. I’ve had a blast riding around on it so far.
