Dart is a comfortable, advanced bike for kids that bridges the gap by introducing them to features commonly seen on adult bikes. A versatile 7-speed drivetrain teaches them how to use gears to optimize their ride, and twist-grip shifters allow them to practice switching gears with their hands on the handlebars and eyes on the road. The easy-reach V-brake is made for small hands, but brings big stopping power, and gets them used to braking with their hands instead of their feet. Taking children’s unique proportions into account, this bike is tailor made just for them – its ergonomic design with adjustable height supports a comfortable riding position as they keep growing, its size and weight allow even smaller cyclists to handle the bike with ease, and cushy, shock-absorbing tires will keep the cruising smooth ride after ride. They’ll be leading the pack in no time.

How to measure my inseam for a bike

Your inseam can help you find the perfect sized bike (measuring it properly is similar to pant inseams but measured a little differently). Here's how they work:

  1. Stand upright with your feet 6-8" apart.
  2. Using a tape measure or tailor tape, measure from the bottom of your foot to the top of the inside of your leg.
  3. Compare your inseam measurement to the standover height of the bike. You should have about an inch of space between your body and the top tube.

A good bike but very hard to put together

The bike seems to be good quality but it was honestly a gigantic nightmare to put together and took me over an hour. The wheel would not fit onto the frame as called out in the assembly manual (the front brake was adjusted too tightly to do so), so I had to disconnect the brake to get it on (which was NOT part of the assembly instructions, I had to wing it). It then took me forever to get the brake reset back to where it needed to be. I'm not sure if that was a result of the unassisted disconnection that I did, or if it's normally a pain to do, but it necessitated looking up several instruction manuals online through third party sources/on YouTube before I figured it out. I wish Retrospec would include better instructions to accommodate how these bikes are actually shipped out. I don't normally have such a hard time putting things together. I bought my other child a bike from a different brand which arrived on the same day, and the other bike only took me 5 minutes to put together.

    Hi Emilee,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on the assembly process for your new bike. We sincerely apologize for the challenges you encountered and the frustration this caused. Providing clear and easy-to-follow instructions is extremely important to us, and we regret that our assembly manual fell short in your experience. I can see that you connected with a customer service agent and were able to resolve the issue. As he mentioned, we will be sharing your review with our product team as we are always looking for ways to improve.
A kind reminder that we recommend taking the bike to a bike shop so a certified (and experienced) mechanic can assemble and make adjustments needed to get your new bike in perfect riding condition. We know you have many options of where to shop, and we thank you for choosing Retrospec.

    High Quality

The bike is solid. Good quality and easy to assemble.

My only complaint is the blue color is quite a bit darker in person than in the images on the website, which caused some disappointment with the kiddo.

    Handlebars not adjustable

For a kids bike with an adjustable seat height that’s supposed to “grow” with them, I expected the handlebar height to be adjustable too. What a disappointment that it isn’t! Just received this bike and the seat is set at its lowest. My son feels the handlebars are too low now. Can only imagine how uncomfortable he’ll feel when we have to raise the seat. I’m mad at myself for making an assumption on adjustability of the handlebars instead of doing my due diligence (reading the questions and answers tab). I never would’ve purchased this bike. It will not last us but one season. I gave this 3 stars instead of less since my lack of research led to my purchase.

My grandson sad it was nice

My daughter said that it was easy to assemble, so I guess it's okay. They have not taken it outside yet.
