What is the best way to carry things on your ebike?
There are a variety of ways to carry things on your bike, including bike bags, rear racks, and bike cargo trailers. If you have an electric bicycle (or ebike), there are also ebike-specific baskets like the ones in this collection, which go either on the front of your handlebars or on your rear rack. The “best” way to carry things on your ebike depends on what you want to carry, but an ebike basket is the best choice for small, everyday items like a purse, tote bag, or water bottle.
Can you put a basket on an electric bike?
Yes! Our ebike baskets are specially designed to offer spacious, robust storage solutions on the front or rear of your ebike. Adding a basket to your ebike increases its practicality for commutes, grocery runs, other errands, and simply carrying personal items. When choosing an ebike basket, just consider size, weight capacity, and secure mounting to ensure safe and efficient transport.
Are ebike baskets worth it?
Totally! Adding an ebike basket is worth it for many riders. The best ebike baskets are lightweight and will significantly increase your ebike's utility, transforming it into a practical cargo carrier for groceries, school, work, shopping, or other daily commutes. Baskets offer convenient, hands-free transport, eliminating the need for bulky backpacks or awkward bags. They also enhance your ebike's versatility, making it a more viable alternative to car trips for short errands around town.
Do all ebike baskets fit all ebikes?
How to install an ebike basket?
Installing our ebike baskets is simple. In short, it really just requires tightening a few bolts with an Allen wrench. That said, the exact process will depend on the ebike basket you choose. See the “Assembly & Owner's Manual” on the bottom of your ebike basket’s product page. There you can download a PDF of our installation instructions.
What are bikes with baskets called?
In the early 20th century, bakers, newsmen, milkmen, and other delivery workers often rode “butcher’s bikes.” These bikes have a basket mount built into the front frame (as opposed to the handlebars). Once common, especially in the United Kingdom, butcher’s bikes are extremely rare in the 21st century. Today, there is no specific name for bikes with baskets, but beach cruiser bikes and city bikes are often seen with baskets attached to the handlebars.
Do I put an ebike basket on the front or back?
It’s up to you! Ebike baskets can go on the front of your bike, ahead of the handlebars, or at the back, attached to your ebike rear rack, or both! Just keep in mind that to use a rear ebike basket, you need a rear rack. Once you have a rear rack installed on your ebike, check out our bike bags page for more rear rack storage solutions, such as panniers and trunk bags.
How much do ebike baskets cost?
Prices vary, but our high-quality ebike baskets—which come with robust metal frames, bar-end-plug accessory ports for drink and phone holders, mirrors, and lights, as well as a large carrying capacity—run from around $70 to $80.
What are ebike baskets made from?
Ebike baskets are typically crafted from durable materials to withstand daily use and varying weather conditions. While some ebike baskets may be made from wire mesh or wicker, our baskets are constructed from sturdy, rust-resistant steel or aluminum. Some, like our EverythingBin, come with a water-resistant fabric liner to reduce weight. This liner also features a zippered stash pocket for smaller items like keys or wallets.
What is an ebike basket liner?
An ebike basket liner is a fabric liner that can line the inside of a metal ebike basket. This allows you to place small items, like phones, wallets, keys, or books, inside your ebike basket without worrying that they might slip out between the metal slats. Our ebike liners are made from weather-resistant fabric and include a small zippered pocket for your valuables.
What else can I use as an ebike basket?
It is possible to DIY an ebike basket from a metal or wicker picnic basket, a supermarket basket, or a milk crate, but purpose-made bike baskets aren’t expensive, either. You can purchase steel or handwoven bike baskets for around $25 to $40.
Are ebike baskets safe?
Yes! Ebike baskets are perfectly safe when used correctly. That said, safety relies on proper installation and responsible use. Make sure your basket is mounted securely. This is crucial to prevent wobbling or detachment while riding. Avoid overloading your basket, too, as this will negatively impact your bike’s handling and balance, especially at higher speeds or during turns. When used with these precautions, ebike baskets offer a very safe, convenient way to carry belongings.
How to prevent a bike basket from being stolen?
The best way to prevent your ebike basket from being stolen is to purchase a secure, bolt-on basket like ours. Flimsy, cheaper ebike baskets that attach via hooks, straps, or buckles can easily be lifted and stolen by thieves. Remember, most thieves are merely opportunists! When a basket is bolted onto the frame of a bike, it’s extremely unlikely that it will be stolen.
Can you put a basket on a folding ebike?
You can certainly attach a basket to a folding ebike, but not a traditional, fixed ebike basket like the ones in this collection. Instead, choose a removable, lightweight wire or wicker bike basket, which attaches via buckles or hooks, and can easily be taken on and off your bike when you need to fold it up for storage or transport.
