How to Choose a Multi Person Paddle Board

Choosing one of our multi person paddle boards mostly comes down to matching the board to your crew. Here is how we think about size, crew count, and weight capacity.

What Size Multi Person Paddle Board Do You Need?

It comes down to how many people are paddling and what you want to bring along. Two or three of you feel great on the 12-foot Weekender Crew, while four or five fit comfortably on the 15-foot Weekender Crew XL. Use our guide below to match a board to your crew, then size up if you want extra room for gear, a cooler, or a dog.

Multi person paddle board sizing, by your crew.

How you paddle Board length Why it works
2 to 3 paddlers Weekender Crew 12', up to 500 lb A wide, stable deck where two of you can paddle side by side
4 to 5 paddlers Weekender Crew XL 15', up to 1,050 lb 15 feet long and nearly 5 feet wide for the whole crew

A party on the water Weekender Crew XL 15', up to 1,050 lb Nearly 5 feet wide, enough to stand or sit side by side

How Many People Can Ride One Board?

It comes down to how many people are paddling and what you want to bring along. Use our guide below to match a board to your crew, then size up if you want extra room for gear, a cooler, or a dog.

How Much Weight Can a Multi Person Paddle Board Hold?

Up to five on our multi person boards. The 12 foot Weekender Crew is built for 2 to 3 paddlers, and the 15 foot Weekender Crew XL holds 4 to 5. Both are far roomier than a single rider board, so the whole crew can sit, stand, and move around without crowding each other.

Weekender Crew vs Weekender Crew XL

Both are multi person paddle boards we built for fun with your people. The choice comes down to how big your crew gets and how much board you want to carry. Here is how the two compare.

What Multi Person Paddle Boards Are Made Of

We start every party board with a tough, dual-layer body. Ours use a puncture-resistant AerGlide-Fusion construction with a soft EVA deck pad for grip, so the board inflates firm and stays planted underfoot with a full crew aboard.

Five Fins, Handles, and Bungee Storage

A party board adds a few things a single board does not have. Ours run five slide-in fins instead of three for extra stability and tracking, more grab handles and D-rings around the deck, and bungee storage at both the front and the rear. It all ships as a complete kit with paired paddles, a pump, and a carry bag.

How Wide and Long Is a Party Board

Width and length are what make our multi person paddle boards so steady, and they are the biggest difference from a single rider board. Our Weekender Crew XL is 15 feet long, nearly five feet wide, and 8 inches thick, so it gives a full crew a planted platform and room for two to stand or sit side by side. The 12 foot Weekender Crew keeps a wide, stable deck in a size that is easier to handle and store. The longer and wider the board, the more stable it feels with people moving around on it.

Setting Up and Paddling Your Board

The best part of an inflatable is how little fuss it takes. Here is the whole routine we would follow, from your first pump to paddling together.

How Two People Paddle Together

The trick is simple coordination. Put the heavier or more confident paddler at the back to steer, with the second paddler up front to set the pace. Paddle on opposite sides and switch together to keep the board tracking straight. Start on your knees on calm water, then stand once you both feel balanced, and you will find a big board moves just as easily as a one person board.

Adding Kayak Seats With EasyLink

Paddle boards do not come with seats, but we give our multi person boards an EasyLink Connection System, so you can attach inflatable kayak seats (sold separately) and paddle sitting down, just like a kayak or canoe. Our Weekender Crew XL is even wide enough for two of you to sit side by side, so the whole crew can settle in for the long stretches.

Paddles, Pumps, and Storage

We include a pair of three-piece adjustable paddles that set from 63 to 84 inches, so they fit different paddlers, plus a dual-action hand-and-foot pump that inflates a party board in under 20 minutes. Want to skip the workout? Our iSUP electric pump does it for you. When the day is done, the board rolls back into its carry bag, and you can grab accessories like extra paddles any time.

FLOAT EASY

Group Safety and What to Wear

A little prep keeps the good days good. We always tell folks to bring a properly fitted, U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket for every paddler, start on calm, flat water, and keep the board within its weight capacity so it rides high and steady. Our Bobbin' life jackets come in infant, child, youth, and adult sizes, so the whole crew is covered.

Safety first. The U.S. Coast Guard treats a paddle board outside a swimming or surf area as a vessel. Paddlers 13 and older must have a USCG approved life jacket with them, and per USCG guidance, “A child 12-years old or younger must wear their USCG-approved life jacket.”

Multi Person Paddle Board FAQs

What is a party paddle board, and how is it different from a regular paddle board?

A party paddle board, also called a multi person paddle board, is an inflatable board we design for two or more people to ride at once. Next to a regular single rider board, our party boards are longer, wider, and thicker, and they add five slide-in fins instead of three for extra stability and tracking. More grab handles and D-rings around the deck. Bungee storage at both the front and the rear.

Can two people use one paddle board?

Yes! Two of you can absolutely share one board, as long as it is built for it. We make our multi person paddle boards like the Weekender Crew 12 ft wide, long, and stable enough for two riders to paddle together, with a 500 pound capacity that easily handles two adults plus a little gear.

How many people can fit on a paddle board?

Up to five on our multi person boards. Our Weekender Crew XL is our largest board and seats four or five paddlers thanks to its 1,050 pound capacity and nearly five foot width. The 12 foot Weekender Crew is a great fit for two or three.

What size multi person paddle board do you need for two people?

For two people, we point you to a 12 foot board. Our Weekender Crew 12 ft gives two adults room to paddle side by side with a 500 pound capacity. If you want extra space for gear, a third rider, or a dog, sizing up to our 15 foot Weekender Crew XL gives you more deck to spread out.

How much weight can a multi person paddle board hold?

A lot more than a single rider board. Most single adult boards top out around 300 pounds, but we build our multi person boards to go much higher. Our 12 foot Weekender Crew holds up to 500 pounds, and our 15 foot Weekender Crew XL holds up to 1,050 pounds.

How wide is a multi person paddle board?

Much wider than a standard board, and that width is what makes ours so steady. Our 15 foot Weekender Crew XL is nearly five feet wide, enough for two paddlers to stand or sit side by side. That extra width gives everyone a stable platform, so our party boards feel solid even with a full crew aboard.

What is the largest paddle board we make?

Our largest is the 15 foot Weekender Crew XL. At 15 feet long, nearly five feet wide, and 8 inches thick, it holds up to 1,050 pounds and fits four or five paddlers. It is the biggest, most stable board in our lineup, built for the whole crew to ride together.

Should you choose the Weekender Crew or the Weekender Crew XL?

It comes down to crew size. We suggest the 12 foot Weekender Crew for two or three paddlers, easier handling, and simpler storage. Step up to our 15 foot Weekender Crew XL for four or five paddlers, a 1,050 pound capacity, and room to spread out. Both are party boards, so it really comes down to how big your crew gets.

What is the best multi person paddle board for a family?

It depends on how many of you are paddling. For a family of four or five, our 15 foot Weekender Crew XL has the deck space and 1,050 pound capacity to fit everyone, including kids and a dog. Smaller families do great on our 12 foot Weekender Crew, which is lighter to carry and quick to set up.

How much does a party paddle board cost?

You can expect to pay somewhere between $500 and $800 for a quality inflatable multi person paddle board, and both our Weekender Crew and larger Weekender Crew XL sit in that range. On our party boards, soft EVA decking covers a puncture-resistant AerGlide-Fusion body, so you get a board that is grippy, stable, and durable.

Can plus-size paddlers use a multi person paddle board?

Yes. We think a multi person paddle board is a great option for plus-size paddlers, because the high weight capacity and extra width give you a stable, roomy platform. Our 12 foot Weekender Crew holds up to 500 pounds and our 15 foot Weekender Crew XL holds up to 1,050 pounds, so there is plenty of room to ride comfortably.

Is it hard to paddle a board with two people?

Easier than it looks. Our multi person paddle boards are wide and stable, so once you and your partner settle into a rhythm, they track smoothly. The trick is simple coordination: paddle on opposite sides and match your strokes. With two of you sharing the work, a big board like our Weekender Crew moves just as easily as a one person board.

How do two people paddle together on one board?

It just takes a little teamwork. Here is how we suggest doing it: 1. Put the heavier or more confident paddler at the back to steer 2. The second paddler takes the front and sets the pace 3. Paddle on opposite sides and switch together to stay straight 4. Start on your knees on calm water, then stand once you feel balanced

Do party paddle boards come with multiple paddles?

Yes! Our party paddle boards all come with a pair of three-piece adjustable paddles that set at lengths from 63 to 84 inches. If you need more than two, you can grab additional paddles on our website any time.

How long does it take to inflate or deflate a party paddle board?

It depends how fast you pump! You can usually get one inflated in under 20 minutes with the dual-action hand and foot pump we include. If you would rather not break a sweat, our iSUP electric pump does it for you, which is especially nice on party boards since they are so much bigger than a normal board.

Can you add a seat to a multi person paddle board?

Yes. Paddle boards do not come with seats, but we give our multi person boards an EasyLink Connection System, so you can attach inflatable kayak seats (sold separately) and paddle sitting down, just like a canoe or kayak. Our Weekender Crew XL is even wide enough for two of you to sit side by side.

How long do multi person paddle boards last?

A well cared for board lasts a long time. We build our multi person boards with a dual-layer, puncture-resistant AerGlide-Fusion body, so they shrug off dings and scrapes and often last five to eight years or more. To get the most out of yours, rinse it off after each paddle and store it deflated in a cool, dry place out of direct sun.
