Are inflatable docks worth it?
Whether inflatable docks are “worth it” depends on your needs and budget. They are a great option if you prioritize minimal storage, weight, portability, affordability, and ease of setup. Inflatable docks are perfect for temporary or recreational use. If you need a permanent, stable dock for heavy loads or rough waters, a traditional hard floating dock may be a better investment. Consider your intended use, desired features, and how much you're willing to spend before making a decision.
Are floating docks expensive?
Permanent “hard” floating docks are quite expensive, sometimes costing thousands of dollars. However, portable, inflatable floating docks like ours are available for as low as $500!
Are inflatable floating docks comfortable?
Inflatable floating docks are surprisingly comfortable. They offer a soft, cushioned surface for lounging and sunbathing, with textured decking for grip. To add extra comfort and versatility, add plush, EVA-padded AerComfort inflatable seats.
What are inflatable docks made from?
Our inflatable docks are made from AerGlide-Lite PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and coated up top with grippy EVA (ethyl vinyl acetate) decking. PVC construction provides puncture and abrasion resistance, protects from ultraviolet rays, and also reliably holds air pressure effectively to maintain rigidity during long days on the water. The result is docks that are comfortable, durable, and lightweight!
Hard floating docks vs. inflatable floating docks?
Hard floating docks are more stable and durable, making them better for frequent use and actual performance as a “dock” for watercraft. They are more expensive and require more effort to install and remove. Inflatable floating docks are easier to store, transport, and set up, making them ideal for temporary day-to-day use or those with limited space. Our inflatable floating docks are designed for personal use, hanging out on the water, listening to music, sunbathing, and practicing yoga.
How many people can fit on an inflatable dock?
It really depends on how much the people weigh. All inflatable docks have weight limits. In the case of Retrospec docks, this is 1,050 pounds for our smaller Weekender Dock and 1,500 pounds for the larger Weekender XL.
The world average for an adult weight is 136 pounds, so based on that, you could technically fit seven people on the Weekender and eleven people on the Weekender XL. Keep in mind that this might be a bit crowded! These docks also feature attachment points for our AerComfort Inflatable Seats (three seats on the Standard, four on the XL).

How much do inflatable docks weigh?
Most inflatable docks weigh 50 to 100 pounds or more. Retrospec docks, however, combine the best-in-class price and quality with extremely low weight. Our Weekender Dock, which can hold 1,050 pounds and provides 49 square feet of surface area, weighs a mere 39 pounds! The larger Weekender XL dock, which can hold 1,500 pounds and covers 100 square feet, still only weighs 75 pounds.
How much weight can an inflatable dock hold?
It depends on the dock. Our smaller inflatable platform dock, the seven-foot Weekender Dock, has a recommended weight capacity of 1,050 pounds. Its big brother, the 10-foot Weekender XL, can safely support up to 1,500 pounds.
What accessories come with an inflatable dock?
Our inflatable docks come with a dual-action pump, a repair kit with valve wrench and patches, and a carry bag to store and transport the dock when deflated. You also might want to consider purchasing life jackets, an electric pump, and/or an anchor to keep your dock in place while on the water.
Both the Weekender Dock and the Weekender XL inflatable docks are also designed to be used with inflatable seats, thanks to multiple stainless steel D-ring attachment points spread out across the decking. The 7-foot Weekender Dock can fit three seats, and the 10-foot Weekender Dock XL can fit four.

How long do inflatable docks last?
The lifespan of your inflatable dock comes down to proper care and storage. A well-maintained inflatable dock can last five to 10 years or more. Lifespan also depends on the frequency of use and the environment in which the dock is used. Factors like sun exposure and rough handling can drastically decrease an inflatable dock’s lifespan.
How to store an inflatable dock?
Like any inflatable watercraft, it’s best to store an inflatable dock either partially inflated (4-6 PSI) or fully deflated but loosely rolled. The key thing is that the dock is stored dry and kept in a relatively cool environment, out of direct sunlight. High temperatures and direct sunlight will degrade the dock’s surface over time, and high levels of humidity (or water left on the dock) will lead to mold.
What are the disadvantages of an inflatable floating dock?
Inflatable floating docks can be less durable and have lower weight capacity than solid docks. If you’re looking to establish a permanent floating dock, or are planning to actually “dock” large watercraft like boats and jet skis, then a solid dock is best. But for temporary recreational use, inflatable docks have no disadvantages. They’re easy to store and transport, affordable, durable, comfortable, and extremely versatile.
Do you need to anchor an inflatable floating dock?
You certainly don’t need to anchor an inflatable floating dock. However, if you’re using the dock in a water source with a current or waves and you want to be sure your dock stays put, then you do need to use an anchor. Our Weekender Docks are built with underside D-rings to serve anchor-attachment points.
How deep does the water need to be for an inflatable floating dock?
Generally, a minimum water depth of 2-3 feet is required for safe use of an inflatable floating dock. This allows enough space for the dock to float freely without hitting the bottom. However, deeper water—at least five feet—is optimal for swimming and relaxing on a dock. (It’s not much fun if you’re floating only a couple of feet off the bottom!) If you plan on jumping or diving off the dock, you’ll want a depth of at least eight to 10 feet.
Can you leave an inflatable floating dock in the water permanently?
Our inflatable floating docks are extremely lightweight and compact and designed primarily for temporary use. While the AerGlide-Lite construction and textured decking are extremely durable, it’s best to deflate these floating docks when not in use. It is certainly possible to leave an inflatable dock floating for days on end without any issue, but you’re likely decreasing the lifespan of your dock by doing so.
